[NEWS] 170124 SXSW adds Red Velvet, Yoonmirae, Drunken Tiger to K-Pop Night Out

In its fifth year, K-pop Night Out at South By Southwest is getting some of its biggest names yet.
On Monday (Jan. 23), SXSW announced a few additions to the 2017 lineup for the annual Korean music showcase. Quirky K-pop idol group Red Velvet, hip hop crew Drunken Tiger and Korea’s most renowned female MC Yoonmirae, and punk rockers No Brain were added to the event. They join previously announced acts like alt-rock band Galaxy Express, folk-pop singer-songwriter Big Phony, and SISTAR member Hyolyn.
The last newly announced act, Red Velvet, is a female quintet managed by K-pop megahouse SM Entertainment. The group is the youngest act performing at this year’s K-pop Night Out, but has gained a renown for their dual personas: “Red” music (“Dumb Dumb”) released by the group is more fun and upbeat, while “Velvet” songs (“One of These Nights”) represent the more mature side of the pop act.
The diverse program was put together by The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), which previously organized past K-Pop Nights Out at SXSW.
South Korean music has increasingly become popular at SXSW. 2016 featured the most Korean artists ever in attendance, and held two distinct Korea-focused showcases, K-Pop Night Out and Seoulsonic.
